Belgium-based photographer Pascal Mannaerts, 39, set out to document the power of the maternal bond

The portraits reveal the power of touch between a mother and baby, with all of the youngsters held close by. 
Some infants are strapped to their mum's backs, while others are held by the hand or on the knee.

Mannaerts said his favourite mother-child image is one he took in Pushkar, India.
The photograph shows a woman in a long red sari with her face covered and a baby cradled in her arms. 
Revealing what draws him to the shot, Mannaerts mused: 'I love its mystery, combo sapa its colors, its atmosphere. I also truly love the place where I took it: Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India.'
The cameraman said the mothers were always proud to pose with their offspring and 'happiness automatically radiated' from them. 
Mannaerts has been globetrotting for more than a decade around the world with his camera.
His striking images have been featured in numerous publications including National Geographic. 
Explaining what drives him, he concluded: 'In the process of total immersion in every culture I discover, I place the human being as the main focus in my photographic work, through photographs which tend to open dialogues, arouse emotions and questions.'
